8 gates/energies of Taichi

1st routine contains:
péng = to expand or inflate the body/ ward off
lǔ = rolling back, leading to emptiness
jǐ = to crowd in / to cram in / to force others aside / to press / to squeeze
ān = to push

2nd routine contains:
cǎi = to pick / to pluck / to collect / to select / to choose / to gather
liè = to split / to crack / to break open
zhǒu = elbow energy
kào = to lean against or on / shoulder energy/ body energy

 


fājīng= to send out energy/ vital force
hé = to close up, compact
kāi = to open up, spread out
sōng = having the body be be loose and relaxed
chén = sinking


Movements/Directions
jìnbù: Move forwards
tuìbù: move backwards

 

Anatomy
kuà = hip
băi huì = Acupuncture point at the top of the head. GV 20
huì yīn = Acupuncture point at the center of the perineum. CV 1
dāng = The crotch area
cháng qiáng = Acupuncture point at the coccyx (bone at the base of the spine). GV 1
